Birth Rate at 15 Year High

Canada's birth rate in 2007 was at a 15 year high, due in great part to women over 30 who accounted for 56 per cent of all births. The group with the highest rate of fertility is women aged 30 to 34. For only the second year in a row, women in their thirties bore more children than women in their twenties. The number of births rose in all age groups and provinces, except Prince Edward Island and the Yukon. This is the fifth annual increase in Canada's birth rate and an increase of 3.7 per cent from 2006, the fastest annual increase since 1989.
