She has been a volunteer with Planned Parenthood Ottawa and Halifax Sexual Health Centre for over five years as a community educator and clinic assistant. She later founded the first Medical Students for Choice (MSFC) chapter at the University of Ottawa and currently serves as the Canadian Regional Coordinator for MFSC. After finishing medical school, Kerry plans to complete a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology to ultimately become an abortion provider and specialist in adolescent gynecology. 2010-2011 Winner: Lauri East
Lauri East is a Master of Science candidate at the University of Western Ontario, whose current research explores sexuality and sex education among adolescents living with physical disabilities.  Lauri has found that Canadian research on the topic of sexuality and disability is lacking, and has begun to act as an advocate to ensure the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents with disabilities.  Lauri’s research aims to help youth with physical disabilities, who often face barriers to accessing sexual health information, and who are at higher risk of sexual violence and negative sexual health outcomes.  Lauri currently volunteers with the Childcare program at the London Abused Women’s Centre and volunteered for a number of years as a peer sex educator working with high school students.  Once finished her MSc., Lauri plans to become a certified sex educator, as well as pursue a PhD.

2009-10 Winner: Elicia Loiselle

Elicia is currently co-authoring a chapter in a new Child and Youth Care volume that explores marginalized girls’ sexuality via the structural barriers they negotiate.
