Dr. Henry Morgentaler Future Choice Scholarship
Are you, or is someone you know, one of tomorrow’s pro-choice medical professionals? Canadian Federation for Sexual Health has established an annual scholarship program in honour of Dr. Henry Morgentaler’s contributions for a pro-choice Canada. The award will acknowledge and financially assist 2nd, 3rd and 4th year medical school students in Canada who have clearly demonstrated a commitment to ensuring women in Canada have the right to choose and access safe, legal abortion care. The award bursary is intended to support a medical student to access abortion provider training as an elective.
What is the value of this scholarship?
The Dr. Henry Morgentaler Future Choice Scholarship consists of up to five annual awards of $1,000 each.
Who is eligible for this scholarship?
The Dr. Henry Morgentaler Future Choice Scholarship will consider applications from candidates who meet all of the following criteria:
- Are currently in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of medical school at a recognized Canadian university
- Have demonstrated a commitment to pro-choice and sex-positive sexual and reproductive health care
- Can demonstrate an intent to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights in Canada following graduation
Selection Criteria:
- Evidence of commitment to rights-based pro-choice sexual/reproductive health care
- Evidence of participation in community-based pro-choice volunteer activities
- Letter of recommendation
- Evaluation of the candidate’s essay
- Demonstration of potential as a pro-choice champion in Canada
We regret that this scholarship will not be offered for the 2010/2011 academic year.
